Why tailoring travels well

Good tailoring is quietly versatile. The same trousers that anchor a Monday meeting will carry you to dinner with a change of shoe and a silk camisole. You buy less, and you wear it more.

The five pieces

• The cropped blazer — structured shoulder, shorter line. Over a dress or with trousers, it sharpens everything.
• Wide-leg trousers — fluid and lengthening, in a fabric with weight so they fall rather than crease.
• The fluid shirt — silk or crepe, half-tucked by day, undone one more button by night.
• The slip dress — bare on its own, layered under the blazer or over a fine knit when it cools.
• The wool coat — the piece that pulls the rest together and lasts a decade.

Fabric and fit

Choose natural fibres — wool, silk, fine cotton — and have the fit corrected. A hem taken up or a waist nipped is the difference between a nice garment and one that looks made for you. Our Dubai atelier handles alterations by appointment.
